Year 5, Autumn 1, Week 6

Black history has been the focus for the school this week and Year 5 have participated in a number of ways.  On Monday they took part in an African drumming workshop, which each class then showcased to the rest of their key stage.  In topic on Tuesday, they discussed Rosa Parks and her brave actions in refusing to give up her seat on the bus.  They used role play to explore this before we then looked at the events in greater depth on Wednesday and wrote diary entries from her point of view.  They really enjoyed watching a fictionalised clip based on Rosa Parks which featured in a recent Dr Who episode.  If anyone wants to see the whole episode, written by acclaimed children’s author Malorie Blackman, the link is here:  Dr Who, Rosa Parks episode

In maths this week, we have been practising multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 which the children have mastered really well.  Ask your child how to multiply and divide by 10 and why we never talk about ‘just adding a zero’!

We have begun our new topic of Life Choices in RE and will be exploring vocations and other life choices that we face when following the mission of Jesus.
