Back to school from our half term holiday and straight into a busy one. We have thought a lot this week about the choices we make and the consequences they have, as our new RE topic is Choices. Over the next few weeks we will be thinking about this and considering conscience and its role in our choices.
In English we have been enjoying The Magic Box by Kit Wright and thinking about what we would put into a magic box. We have been expanding our noun phrases with adjectives and extending each line with a preposition and more information.
We have continued with long division in maths, practising division of tens by ones with no regrouping. We will be practising this some more next week.
We are continuing our topic of Gods and Mortals this half term and in our topic lesson this week we looked at democracy by recreating an Athenian Ecclesia. The children were chosen to be slaves, women or free men through a random lottery system and then used black or white stones to vote on three laws introduced by the three Boule. Of course, only the free men got a vote as slaves and women didn’t have the right to vote – very topical as this year marks 100 years since women gained the right to vote in this country.
This week has been Arts Week so we have had the opportunity to be creative in different ways. On Monday, we created some beautiful mosaic pictures and on Wednesday we swapped classes to work with different teachers in a range of media. Some children also enjoyed a dance workshop on Thursday. Our lovely mosaic pictures will be on show at the school exhibition in a couple of weeks.
