How exciting…and scary in equal measure!
And in Year 6 it has felt very seasonal this week as Mrs O’Connor has ensured that the boys and girls have been greeted by a lovely log-fire every morning accompanied by Christmas music to get them into the festive spirit! The log-fire is a virtual one I hasten to add…put the fire extinguisher away, Mr Hunter!
The highlight of the week in Year 6 has been their lovely Class Mass which they celebrated yesterday (see previous post). In relation to this, the children have continued with their ‘Expectations’ topic in RE and have been thinking about their own expectations and the importance of sharing them with others as well as beginning to design their own ‘Advent Wreaths’ with their own symbols.
In English, the children have continued to enjoy ‘War Horse’ and this week they have been analysing the various characters in the story and thinking about how the author has portrayed them in different ways.
Mathematics has seen us further develop the children’s understanding of fractions and their relationship to decimals and percentages. The children have also been working a variety of challenging problems involving finding various fractions, decimals and percentages of amounts.
And of course…today was the PTA Mufti Day…and some fabulous Christmas jumpers (including flashing lights!) made an early appearance! Guess who is playing ‘Secret Santa?!
We look forward to seeing you all at tomorrow’s Christmas Fete where you can purchase the lovely candle holders that your children have made…and much more besides of course!
