No Pen Day!

Today is ‘No Pen Day’ at St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School!

‘No Pen Day’ was introduced in 2011 by The Communication Trust to encourage schools and settings to put down their pens and to run a day of speaking and listening activities.

We have thoroughly embraced this initiative once again this year and all of the classes are currently engaged in a variety of engaging ‘pen-free’ activities.

The boys and girls in year 6 are re-enacting various scenes from their class story ‘Pig-Heart Boy’ whilst Year 5 are involved in a ‘Wag Worms’ challenge where they have to assemble three cubes in as many different ways as they can…and Soffie has managed 15!

Schools that took part in No Pens Day 2016 said:

  • 83% of respondents said that taking part in No Pens Day Wednesday 2016 raised their awareness of speech, language and communication needs

    • 95% said they’d do things differently around school as a result of their involvement

    • 25% of respondents they had identified pupils who were struggling with spoken language that they’d not known about before

If only every day could be ‘pen-free’!
